Health food store soap is made with one
or more of three base oils: coconut, palm and olive. Many are lightly
scented with essential oils or fragrance oils. Given the marketing costs
and retail markup, they can’t use the ingredients soapmakers like me use.
They would be charging $20 a bar.
My soaps typically include
extra-moisturizing ingredients like avocado oil from Mexico, Shea Butter from
Africa, and Kukui Nut Oil from Hawai’i. Not to mention Hazelnut, Jojoba,
Apricot Kernel, and other really moisturizing but expensive ingredients. I also
add these moisturizing oils by the cup-full, not teaspoons. I guarantee
that you will feel the difference.I keep costs down by selling directly to
my customers, and marketing only through word of mouth and craft shows.
And I’m not looking to build a cosmetics
empire. I’m going to be in my kitchen turning out bars of the best soap
you’ve ever used. It’s my passion.
